Big game this weekend against one of the top tier programs in the conference this year. Going to be a tough one.
I really wanted to watch the Samford-Chattanooga game this past weekend but it wasn't available online.
From what I can tell on paper, Samford has an athletic QB (Michael Eubank) that can run it and throw it. Definitely a run first team, with 16 TD's this year coming on the ground, and 4 via the passing game. Although Eubank opened it up this past weekend against Chat, going 18-33 for 244 yards and 2 touchdowns. Also, he threw 3 interceptions. I'm assuming this is because they were down early and we trying to throw their way back into it.
Eubank also had 22 carries for 51 yards. Looking at the Samford stat sheet, I think the carry number also includes 4 sacks. Either way, his is also averaging about 50 yards on the ground per game this season and has 4 rushing TD's to go with his 4 passing TDs.
Their primary back, Denzel Williams, has 5 rushing TD's on the year and averages about 85 yards a game. And although it looks like he carries the load with Eubank, they have some other guys with TD's on the rushing chart who also play WR. So they must get them involved with reverses and such.
In context, they beat VMI 63-21 and it was worse than the score. It was 49-0 going into halftime.
They are a contender for the conference title and we are going to have our hands full.
Any thoughts from anyone or has anybody seen these guys in person (or on the tube?)

The first interception was actually on our second possession. Our OLine couldn't keep the UTC defense out of Eubank's face, even at the end of the game when UTC was only rushing four. It looked like our defense didn't get off the bus until after the half and then piled back on during the fourth quarter. Enjoy the drive over to the Ham, if you can believe The Weather Channel this far out, it is supposed to be sunny and 76 degrees. Hopefully the rain forecast for Thursday and Friday doesn't slow down.

Welcome! Thanks for joining 77SU. This board is only 3 weeks old and we are trying to get it rolling. Everything is new. Also, I signed up for your board but the admin never approved me. If you happen to talk to them, please let them know. I used the same handle as on here, BearDownMU. If my account gets activated, I'll come over and mix it up a bit.

Just to go off-topic for a bit, last Saturday GoMocs was kind enough to give me a ride to the UTC game to meet my daughter Drug Dog, and her boyfriend. We went to the Chattanooga Brewing Company before the game, and GoMocs was saying you all have the place rented out before your time on the UTC field. Folks there said you all had the place for two or three hours. The CBC blocks off an area on Chestnut Street in front of the restaurant and creates a "biergarten." For $5 you get a free beer and can watch the game from the east endzone but have access to their food, taps, and restrooms. I wouldn't think your activity includes this, but if the weather is nice, it's cheaper than buying a ticket into the stadium.

Thanks 77SU. Great info.
The University (Advancement and Alumni Services) rented out the place to do a formal alumni gathering before the game. As you might imagine we have a fair amount of alums up there.
I'm not familiar with the setup. I've never been to UTC's stadium, but I will definitely pass it along. What sucks is that it's a noon game. I have no idea why it would be a noon game, but it doesn't really leave a lot of time to tailgate or do much of anything if you are driving up in the morning.

For the folks attending, get there early, so you can get one of the tables upstairs near the window, then you have a really good view of the field in the air-conditioned/heated comfort of the brewery. The UTC field runs east-west and the east endzone is open, with a grass bank that kids like to play on. Chestnut Street is the east boundary of Finley stadium. Visitor's side at UTC is the north side of the stadium.
Now of course, the SU field is oriented north-south, so the visitors get to stare into the sun on game days. If the forecast continues to hold, be sure to remember to bring hat, visor, sunscreen if sun-sensitive.

Thanks for the tips on Chatt, 77, but we bearTailgaters live by the old football coaching adage to "take 'em one at a time." What can you tell us about Tailgating, Parking, Restaurants, Festivities, etc. @ Samford. We are deep into game planning right now and need to have the 'hay in the barn' by Thursday. Have you ever noticed that there is an area that seems to be reserved for Visiting Teams' Tailgate gatherings? If so, can you help us pinpoint where that location might be? (I have to confess that I did Google up the Chatt Brewing Co & Finley stadium - looks pretty interesting - so, seriously, thanks for that info! I'd be a terrible football coach, huh?)

samford.edu/uploadedFiles/_2012_Homepage/About_Samford/SU%20Campus%20Map-Numberical%202013.pdfThe shaded parking lots are reserved for pass holders along with the south stadium parking lot, #14. Otherwise it's first come, first set up. Lots of folks enter at the west entrance, #11 on the map, and then set up in the parking lots to the right of that entrance between Lakeshore Drive and Montague. No charge for parking on campus. No alcohol on campus, so red solo cups are advisable as part of your tailgate supplies. It is Family Weekend and a preview day, so more extra folks than normal. What has grown in the last few years is tailgating on the Quad, the lawn between buildings 6, 10, 53, and 54. Kinda like the Grove at Ole Miss. I know the Brock School of Business is having Dreamland ribs for their folks, if anyone has a connection there. Bulldog Walk is at 12:45 from the University Center, #53, to the Cooney Field House, #13. We set up our three tents in the south stadium lot near spot A-3, so if any wants to wander off in that direction take the sidewalk on the south side of the field house. We bring out the food after the Bulldog Walk and are there until just before kick-off. Various restaurants are east down Lakeshore at Brookwood Village and then west across I-65 off Lakeshore Parkway. Lakeshore Drive changes to West Lakeshore Drive at Greensprings Highway and then changes to Lakeshore Parkway after going over I-65. There's a Jim-N-Nick's BBQ off Oxmoor at the exit just north of Lakeshore. There's a Publix at Oxmoor and Greensprings if you need last minute tailgate supplies. If you are coming in/out via I-20, I-459, and I-65, there's always places in Hoover and Vestavia along Highway 31, along with all of the traffic lights. Good burger place in Vestavia on Highway 31 is Mugshots, www.mugshotsgrillandbar.com/, especially to catch the Auburn-LSU game on one of their TVs.

Do some people occasionally get set up and 'reserve' an adjacent spot or 2 for their friends with the 'traditional' tailgate chair barricades or is that something that the SammyPo would put an immediate kibosh on and treat the 'perps' quite severely?

I know it will be a challenge this Saturday, but I am excited to see how the team does against one of the top teams in the conference. If we can keep it fairly close I think that it will speak volumes about where we are as a second year program. Visiting the Samford message boards they all seem to think it will be a blow out and that they can name their score and that it will be over by the end of the first quarter. It may be, but watching this team over the last few years I am confident they will go into the game thinking they will win and give it everything they have. Go Bears

The regular parking lots are always open and I don't think anyone has had a problem with taking up a couple of extra spaces with their tents, chairs, etc. Some of our football parents have set up multiple tents the night before, I think, but they are in a corner of the lot nearest the guard shack. When you enter the west gate, immediately past the guard shack, you can either turn left (VIP parking), go straight (one way), or turn right, which takes you to the rest of parking lot. Because of the traffic that comes up that straight section, I would recommend taking the right turn and finding spaces there. You will have a better chance of finding multiple places together. Here are the rules/policies: www.samford.edu/events/default.aspx?id=21474856278Ignore the block about Tailgate Registration Form. That is only to reserve spaces on the Quad. The sororities and fraternities and other university organizations and schools do a nice job setting up there (that's what pledges are for, right?), but it is a hassle to move your stuff within their timeframes. That's why we pitch our tents at our parking spot.
