FUBeAR always likes to check & see how FBS fans perceive their FCS opponents...
Seems Army fans are being very respectful of their next opponent...Air Force...
“5-1 for the first time since 1996 feels great. Mercer next week should not present any real challenge to getting to 6-1. Then the team gets an extra week to heal, rest, and prepare to BEAT AIR FORCE!”
“The good news this week is Army should be able to rest injured players this week against Mercer. That gives them an extra week of recovery to heal up for AFA. GO ARMY!”
“Another week of rest and recovery for Anderson and Jones...With the bye week after the Mercer game that would hopefully be enough to get the team to the point of having 4 QBs suited up and ready to go against AF...”
“This weekend's game against Mercer will likely be a chance to see a lot of Army's future talent on full display. I would not be surprised if multiple starters are on the sidelines not even suited up in order to rest...Since this is a home game, Army will have a full team on the sideline and not just the travel squad...I do not expect a repeat of the Citadel nail-biter game. This one should be a blowout. Enjoy and take notes on everyone who's given an opportunity to play. GO ARMY!” (at least this one didn’t mention Air Force)
”Play the starters until the game is out of hand for Mercer. We should have no trouble with them...”
“...every starter at 100% come game time will start and play...1-3 series...”

From the Army coach's press conference today:
They do some really unique things on offense, so defensively we just need to prepare for them. Coach (Drew) Cronic has a great reputation in the profession. His dad is a long time High School coach at East Coweta in Georgia. He is a legendary coach. Drew has been around football his whole life. He has a very good staff and there are a lot of good players on that football team. There are a lot of guys that we have cross paths with in recruiting. We obviously recruit the state of Georgia very hard, so we are familiar with a lot of their players. We know that they have a really talented group and we're just going to have to play very well.

Thank you - I was just coming here to post pretty much what you posted with a hashtag... #CoachMonkenKnows I was going to include the last couple sentences of his quote though... “They have familiarity with the [Army’s] offense on their defensive staff. Bob Bodine, who was on staff here for a couple of years, is their co-offensive coordinator, so I'm sure he's going to be able to provide some help there. We just have to have ourselves ready and hopefully we'll be able to execute."
Will still be looking out for these great comments from Army fans though. They remind me of what #15 Auburn (y’all are familiar with SEC Football, right?) fans said in 2017 only to find their team only up 1 score with 8 minutes to play in the 4th quarter; Mercer’s ball, just after the Bears’ D had gotten a stop & the Bears O had, in their prior series, driven 83 yards in 12 plays, eating over 6 minutes of clock. A lot of Alabama residents’ fingernails were chewed off that day! 4th 13:48 MER - 7 yd pass from - 12 plays, 83 yards, TOP 6:07 10 17
1st and 10 at MER20 MERCER drive start at 08:50.

I think most army fans take our fcs opponents seriously as we have had several losses to this level in the past decade. We barely beat at 0-3 Citadel team just two weeks ago. Your team has probably been prepping for us for a while. I don't think Coach Monken is one to let his team look past an opponent, unlike some our fans. I for one know anything can happen in college football. We are down to our 5th string qb, our offensive line has struggled, and we give up a lot of penalties which has really stalled a lot of drives and momentum. Anyway, look forward to the game and hope both teams can come away without injuries. I'm not sure the last time these two teams played, but I believe it is the first time I have seen us head to head.

ALL of Coach Monken’s comments & those of Army’s Players have been nothing but respectful and 100% appropriate. Army Three Keys: Mercer“...when a team plays an easy opponent just before a really big game on the schedule.” “Get the game done in two and a half hours if possible. Get the game done without any wrinkles or exotics, or disguised defensive looks.” “Army’s game against Mercer should be a time to strip everything down to its bare essentials. Come up with the simplest game plan imaginable. Army’s defensive quality and physical prowess should enable the Black Knights to handle the Bears under any circumstances.” “Just use brute strength to get the job done… and give the Air Force Falcons absolutely no hint of what’s coming...” “By the middle of the second quarter, this game needs to be close to done...Blasting Mercer in the first quarter and immediately getting this game under control...” “...provide the perfect lead-in to the Air Force game and give backups meaningful snaps in the middle of the season, sharpening them for bigger games later on in the year.” “Army doesn’t have to dazzle in this game against Mercer...” ...FUBeAR is kinda wondering if these guys know Mercer is a scholarship program or not? The only “Key” FUBeAR took from this article is that the key to an Army victory over Mercer this Saturday will be to focus 100% on their game with Air Force 2 weeks from Saturday. Makes sense.

More internet bravery, still not at all indicative of what Army players and coaches think. The same author, in Three Keys: The Citadel, wrote "This game against The Citadel needs to provide a significant boost to the pass rush and Army’s overall ability to stymie opposing passing attacks." Yes, let's have pass rush be a key against an offense that throws ~10 times a game.

Yes, let's have pass rush be a key against an offense that throws ~10 times a game. ROFLMAO CIT’s starting QB completed 3 passes @ Army...2 of the 3 to Army Defensive Players. That’s actually a pretty good day thru the air for them. That KEY pass rush must’ve been the difference!

Jacksonville State beat (FBS) FIU tonight 19-10. 1st FCS over FBS win in 66 tries. Last one was The Citadel over Georgia Tech 9/14/19.
Game was not as close as the score - Jacksonville State was clearly the better Team.
FIU lost by 2 to undefeated #33 Liberty a couple of weeks ago.
Liberty is ranked ahead of Army in the AP Top 25.
Mercer’s down to the wire game with JaxSt is looking even better right now.

Looking forward to seeing your offense today.
Here's to a great game free of serious injury. Really hope no injuries, but if we must have any, make 'em minor.

Looking forward to seeing your offense today. Here's to a great game free of serious injury. Really hope no injuries, but if we must have any, make 'em minor. NOT looking forward to seeing Army’s Offense today. As a longtime SoCon Fan, I’ve seen plenty of it from CIT, Wofford, and GaSou - hard to stop anyway, but the 1st time Players see it, they are just flummoxed & Mercer is SO young on D. They will have to grow up VERY FAST to keep this one from getting out of hand quickly. If they CAN do that, we might see a decent game. The 1st line talent is much more similar than it is different. Experience is different & depth is WAY different. Mercer only has 63 scholarship players. Army has, essentially, 167. Mercer’s more than competitive performance against JaxSt (2 special teams miscues & a VERY questionable (inexplicably, unreviewed) “fumble” call that was returned for a TD) resulted in 3 JaxSt TD’s and cost Mercer the win) gives me some leavening of hope today. JaxSt dominated FBS Florida International last night & had Florida State (recent winners over FBS #5 UNC) on the ropes early just a week before they squeaked by Mercer. FIU lost to AP #33 & undefeated Liberty by only 2, so they are no ‘pushover.’ If Mercer’s D can replicate CIT’s gameplan & contain Army’s TO early, we’ll have a game. If NOT, Army wins 63-21. Go Bears! Maul ‘em!!

Oh well. We had the lead once and we have a very young team. The future is bright.

That was rough.
Army is in mid-season form and Mercer seems to be at A pre-season, light scrimmage type level.
